Question:
If it’s *because of* any particular religion, it’s also a bit too much mixing of state and religion, IMO. That’s what i intended to say – it just didnt come out right I don’t get it either. IIR over 50% of americans claim to be Christian. And IIR the goal of Christians is to be more Christ-Like. Well get a clue people, Jesus made wine and drank it, so whats the big deal with brewing and consuming a little beer.
Most people don’t want to be like Christ, they want to be what they think Christ was like. — [Apparent Rennerian 567.7, 95.9] Al – rukbat at optonline dot net

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. This sentence is an incredibly concise summary of what *I* think is wrong with most organized religions. (If you paraphrase, it applies to many of the non-Christian ones, as well as Christian…) As long as I can remember, I’ve considered myself to be agnostic… God is out there, somwehere… but who are we to presume to know what His/Her/Its true nature really is, or to assume that such an all-powerful entity would give a damn about us? Seems like hubris to me. Oh, crap. This thread has gotten pretty far off-topic, and I’m rambling (under the influence of a few homebrews). In an attempt to bring this back on-topic — and, speaking of Mormons — you REALLY need to check out this link: http://www.wasatchbeers.com/pages/beers.html (Note the one at the bottom, the "Polygamy Porter".) …and, a related news story: http://realbeer.com/news/articles/news-001614.html Cheers! — – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Most people don’t want to be like Christ, they want to be what they think Christ was like.

If the postings from the Beer Nut in Salt Lake City on the HWBTA forum are accurate, they brew a lot of beer and make a lot of wine there. — Dan Listermann Check out our E-tail site at http://www.listermann.com Take a look at the anti-telemarketer forum. It is my new hobby! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The funny thing is that friends of mine from Utah tell me that they know _LOTS_ of Mormons that drink as much as anyone else. They just are "in the closet" about it. There’s a sect of Judaism (I can’t recall the name) that believes about the same thing – that if we can understand it, it can’t be God. Oh, crap. This thread has gotten pretty far off-topic, and I’m rambling (under the influence of a few homebrews).
Ah, okay, there’s the beer reference to get it back on topic.
BTW, for some more on topic discussion, I’m waiting for my water to come up to 150 to steep my Crystal. (Making some more liquid grapefruit.) Gotta love that label! I always have more than one. Beer, that is. SWMBO wouldn’t like the competition, unless the competition did housework.
